  1. Hi Helen,

In http://roddymacleod.wordpress.com/2010/03/19/does-lancaster-university-librarys-website-suck/ I didn't say that Lancaster University Library was a good site, but rather that it didn't suck, and certainly not suck as much as parts of their university website. Pl remember that my post was written in March 2010 so things may have changed.

  2. Hi Roddy,
If you look you'll see that the 'one he says is good' is not refering to Lancaster. It's a link to North Carolina State University page. I am teaching a class of ESP (English for Special Purposes) at a Barcelona University and we are looking at websites purely as a means of learning library vocabulary in English. This blog is only a tool for posting material that we look at in class.
You can see our University Library website here; http://www.uab.es/servlet/Satellite/libraries-1259912737636.html
Ther's a link on the blog too 'UAB Libraries' (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
No doubt you will see that some of the English translation needs to be improved. That is one of the aims of this course.
I have set my students tasks to look at academic library websites and analyse aspects of them. One of the first comments made at the beginning of the course was that none of the websites from the English speaking world had any languages other than English. Here in Catalonia we deal with three (or more) languages on a daily basis. Catalan and Spanish are no problem but English is a foreign language and the good folk at the libraries do the very best they can to function in English as well as running an efficient library service and having a life outside of work.
Your blog postings have proved very useful and I thank you. Any comments you would care to make about our library page would be most welcome and add a bit of realia to the course.
    Best regards, Helen
